Working language pair: ENGLISH – SPANISH

I conceive translation as a constant decision-making process. My role –and my challenge– entails discovering the underlying meaning of a text, what this tissue of words implies, and how it should be conveyed in the target language to be properly understood. Is it an automatic activity? Definitely not! It is not an innate capacity either. In fact, it takes many years for a professional translator to master a foreign language.

A translator also needs to be continually updated on the developments in his/her native language and in his/her field of specialization, and to conduct a terminology research on the subject of the translation before starting to translate. Translation is a profession that –apart from academic knowledge and cultural awareness– combines art and skill, and it also involves complex cognitive operations.

I translate texts exclusively within my areas of expertise and I make sure to devote enough time to every translation. Once the translation is completed, the whole text is carefully reviewed and corrected so as to accurately reproduce words and phrases, and to respect the source text register and tone as well.
